Fluorescentiemicroscopen

Voor biologische en medische toepassingen worden microscopen uitgerust met fluorescentie. Deze worden gebruikt om bepaalde delen van levende cellen en weefsels met hulp van fluoroforen te observeren

Een of meer fluoroforen worden toegevoegd aan zeer specifieke gedeelten van het specimen, weefsel of cellen. Wanneer deze worden blootgesteld aan zogenaamde "excitatie licht", absorbeert de fluorofoor energie uit het onzichtbare excitatie licht waarna het licht in een andere, zichtbare, golflengte uitzendt. Dit maakt het bijvoorbeeld mogelijk om tumorcellen te onderscheiden van cellen, om zo de aanwezigheid of de afwezigheid van tumorcellen te bewijzen. Men kan bijvoorbeeld ook antilichamen of microscopische structuren van cellen en weefsels etc observeren. Voor vrijwel elke cel bestaat een specifieke fluorofoor

Fluorescentiemicroscopen worden geconstrueerd met een invallende lichtbron, specifieke Plan, Plan Fluarex of Semi-Apochromatische Fluarex -objectieven, een of meerdere filtersets voor excitatie en emissie en een dichroïde spiegel. Voor vrijwel elke fluorofoor bestaat een specifieke filterset, er zijn ook filtersets voor een breder bereik aan fluoroforen

De staande modellen hebben een moderne 3 Watt LED doorvallende verlichting en een 100 W opvallende kwiklamp verlichting. De omkeermodellen hebben een 100 W kwiklamp opvallende verlichting en een 30 W halogeen doorvallend lichtbron
